White lump in throat? no tonsils?Hello, I had my tonsils removed about 6 or 7 years ago I used to get the tonsil stones (white puss bumps on em) for years.. So im familiar with those, however about 6 months ago I had noticed a white lump on the left side of my throat, right above the back of my tongue. It was fairly small, however I have noticed recently that it has gotten bigger. Today I started having a coughing attach, went and looked into the back of my throat and its even a little bigger, its still not huge but its there and you can see it. I cant stop coughing, the feeling even made me vomit today. Every time I swallow I feel like I need to cough, I think this is due to my tongue hitting the lump when I swallow. Like I said I do not have my tonsils, any idea what this could be?

Go see an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist. Just b/c you don't have your tonsils does not mean you are immune from other things.

Tonsils can grow back; its rare, but it can happen. It still sounds like some kind of infection. Could be some form of strep too. Go to the doctor.

I would reccomend that you contact your promary care doctor about that "lump" ....I never had my tonsils out untilll last week...and then it was done with an emergency surgery after finding that I had what was called a peritonsilar absess behind my tonsils on my right side. At first I was treated for Streph Throat. Finally after several med changes and not being able to breathe i was lucky and was sent for a CT scan of the soft tissue of my neck...low and behold...a rush into surgery and complications from surgery kept me in ICU for a week with a breathing tube ...please, I don't think that you would want to go through all that, call the DR! I was told that that absess behind my tonsils is fairly common, but the longer you let it go, the more risk you have for serious complications....like I had.

Get it looked at by your doctor. It could be something harmless but it could also be something very serious.
A coworker of mine had a similar problem, described it almost exactly as you did here except except his was in the middle of mouth instead of the to the left side. A couple weeks later he told me he had oral cancer.
Not trying to freak you out by saying that. He's a smoker and has been for years so sadly it really wasn't a surprise when he found out.

Hey there, I also had my tonsils out years ago coz I kept coughing up little white lumps and getting really bad tonsillitis. I also get a lot of mouth ulcers that start as spots and sometimes get them on my throat which is really painful and feels very weird. I've usually got at least one white spot somewhere on my throat (doesn't normally hurt) and whenever I've had a sore throat and seen a doctor they haven't commented as them being unusual but they do seems to grow a bit when I'm ill. I'd recommend you see a doctor if only to find out why it seems to be growing and then you can forget about it. If the doctor says he' s not sure then see someone else. Some doctors know more than others about throats.
