Treating tonsillitis at home?I'm not 100% positive I have tonsillitis, but I have a very sore throat that makes it painfully hard to swallow, my neck is stiff, I have a persistent headache, bad breath, achey all over, stomach pain, nausea, a fever that comes and goes (100-101), basically all of the symptoms i read about on the Internet.) My mom has given me Advil, but that takes 30 minutes to kick in and it lasts only for about 30 minutes, and then i have to wait another 5 and a half hours to take some more. Problem is, I can't visit or call my pediatrician, (yes I am 12) bc I'm visiting family for New years and we are up In the mountains in the middle of nowhere!! I am miserable! what can I do! help please!!!
I haven't been able to sleep well in days. This has been going on for 3 days and has only gotten worse! :(

You could ask your mother to take you to an Urgent Care clinic in town and get a strep test done. They will also look at your tonsils at the same time. Antibiotics are often prescribed for both tonsillitis and strep but testing needs to be done to determine which it is that you have. If your Advil only lasts 30 minutes, you may not be taking enough. Normal dose for a 12 year old (providing you are over 100 pounds) is 400 mg to 600 mg every 6-8 hours. You can also take some tylenol in-between the Advil dosing for better pain control. Gargling with warm salt water (one teaspoon salt in one glass warm water), gargle and spit out as often as you want will also help. If it is still getting worse, it is time to see a doctor and an Urgent Care clinic can take care of this for you.

Firstly, you DO have all the symptoms of tonsillitis.
I have just recovered from acute tonsillitis, and even had to stay in hospital because of it.
So as soon as you get back, it is important to see a doctor - any doctor will pretty much do the same thing - give you antibiotic medicine.
The doctor gave me antibiotics called: "Aspen penicillin".
While you wait to get back, salt water gargling is good (my doctor told me to do it twice a day).
Put about two teaspoons of salt and apple cider vinegar in a cup. Fill it half way with water and stir until the salt dissolves. Then gargle it at the back of your throat.
If you do not have any apple cider vinegar, just use salt mixed into the water
Hope you are feeling better soon!
