After what age do tonsils start to shrink and how rapidly?Ok, so I am 13 and to tonsils are literally the size of golfballs. My mom says I shouldn't get the surgery but she is basically a hippie. Also, I am in choir and am now starting to sing off-key because they are basically blocking my airways. I need to know if they will shrink or if I should go and get them removed soon.

Swelling isn't dependant on age, when your tonsils absorb too much bacteria they swell up and they don't typically unswell down. I'd ask a doctor, but it sounds like you need a tonsilectomy. (It's not as scary as it sounds, you're just hoarse and it hurts like a sore throat for a few days.

They won't really get much better, mine were that big and I had to get them out last January. If they're causing problems you should see about getting them out. You'll be glad you did!
