Tonsils removed as a cure for sore throat?

Tonsils removed as a cure for sore throat?I always get sore throats and throat infections but I never get tonsillitis.
I was just wondering if it would make sense to get rid of my tonsils if I always get a sore throat?
I know the tonsils serve no function and you will still get sore throats if you get them removed but would it make sense to remove my tonsils if I always get a sore throat?

It used to be that doctors removed kids' tonsils as a matter of course. Then, when I was young (1950's), that practice fell out of favor, so mine weren't removed even though I had many, many sore throats, colds, etc. Finally, at age 22, I got them out and it was a HUGE improvement. I still get occasional colds and flu's, but significantly less frequently than pre-tonsillectomy.

Just my experience...

Oh, and before the surgery, my dad had told me he heard of someone who suggested to herself that she not bleed much during surgery. I wasn't worried but decided, casually, to try it. After the operation, the ONE thing the doctor said to me was, "you hardly bled at all."

I did give myself a week to recuperate, and slept most of that time, probably due to whatever painkillers they gave me. My mouth and jaw were really sore, presumably from being forced open; but I don't remember there being much pain in the throat itself!
