Is this mono, strep throat, or something similar?My throat hurts really bad to the point where I don't even want to swallow. I have to drink a few cups of hot liquid (hot cocoa or hot apple cider) per day to try to help with the sore throat. I have swollen lymph nodes and a weak throaty sounding cough. My brother just had mono but I never share cups or anything with him. My temperature is about normal. What could this be?

It could be a number of things. Are the trees and grass pollen high in your area? if so it could be allergies the best thing to do is go to your doctor and ask. Also on the mono thing you do not have to share drinks, if your brother sneezes or coughs and does not wash his hands before touching something you could Still get it. strep and mono are two different diseases. Strep is bacterial, causing a sore throat and fever. It usually gets better in a couple of days with antibiotics. Mono is viral. It causes extreme fatigue, fever, sore throat with swollen glands. If your brother had mono, then you probably have it too. It's passed through the saliva, so, it could be a plate, glass, or utensil wasn't washed properly. This happens a lot.
