How long do antibiotics take to cure tonsillitis?Before anyone asks, yes, i'm in regular contact with my doctor (I'm not just relying on people randomly over the internet for my health!)
Today is Thursday. Last week Thursday i had a fever and what i thought was the flu, and when i went to the doctor on Monday i found out i have tonsillitis. I'm on antibiotics but it's been 4 days and i still feel awful. Is this normal?

I used to get tonsillitis all the time before I finally had my tonsils out when I was 17. Not a fun surgery at that age. But the antibiotics usually started making me feel better within 2 days. Probably a little different for everybody though, my body has always responded very well to antibiotics. If you still have a fever, I would call your doctor. Otherwise just wait it out. One more thing, when you do start feeling better, dont assume you're cured, take all the antibiotics...they tell you that for a reason!

It takes a while, depending on the severity of the infection. If you really feel bad go back to see the doctor ASAP or call him to let him know what is going on. If its strep throat, it's a serious issue because in the long run it may case cardiac problems (if left untreated) . Hope this helps. Stay safe and be healthy!

50 years ago and the antibiotics would have worked overnight.
It takes longer now becasue of overuse. We killed all the bugs we can kill so the ones left have greater resistance.
Do take all the medicine as prescribed, like the previous post said. Feeling better does not mean the infection is gone. Those bugs that are not dead yet will come back if you dont finish the meds.
