Get a flash light..
Stand in front of a mirror..
Turn on the flashlight..
Open your mouth..
Shine the light into your mouth while standing in a way that you can see way down your throat..
Your tonsils are at the back of your mouth, one on each side, right above where your tongue ends and your throat ends..
If you have infected tonsils [tonsillitis] they will sort of look like red sponges with yellow spots in and on them. The yellow is pus from the infection. ..
A strep throat will be different in that the tonsils are not so involved, if at all. Instead what you will see is way,way in back of your throat, it will be very red and there will most likely be small whitish or yellowish spots all over.
But even if it looks like this, you would need a special test done to know for sure whether it is a strep infection or an infection caused by some other type of germ. [ A strep throat is caused by a specific kind of germ and many times you can have a very sore throat and it is caused by something other than strep.]
