How bad is after getting your Tonsils removed?I have heard a lot of stories of people not being able to breathe and that there pain medicine wasnt strong enough. My doctor reassures me that results vary but i wanted a wider variety of opinions. So is getting your tonsils out when youre 20 that bad? And do they give you strong enough medicine so you wont be in pain?

I had mine out when I was around 13. It's not too bad. It's like having a sore throat for a couple of days. I didn't really need much pain medicine. It probably won't be really comfortable but certainly not something to be worried about. You'll be fine.

They say the older you are, the worse post-op experience you'll have. However, with the new cauterize option, most people, no matter what their age, are up and back to work or school 2-3 days later at the max. When my daughter had her's out this way, she was back at school the next morning and had no problem playing outside. She was 12 at the time. If you can work with Tylenol 3, then you'll have no problem going back the next day. They only keep you for 4-6 hours now after the surgery, if everything goes correctly.
Just make sure if they do it this way, not the old fashioned stitches way, that you eat exactly the way they tell you to! One little crunchy chip can cause bleeding and youll have to go back in for surgery again. (My other daughter actually had 7 total surgeries because the cauterized areas kept bleeding profusely.)
