White bump type thing on my throat near tonsil?Ok so, when i came back to my dorm from my christmas break i starting having a cough the first day i was back. didnt really worry about it. then i woke up one day and my throat was killing me and my body ached, like if someone touched me. so i took my temperature and it was 102.. bought some tylenol and stuff and ive been feeling better. the only thing is, my throat still kills wehn i swallow and i was looking at it to see if it was strep and theres like a few white looking things on my tonsil area... ive heard of tonsil stones and stuff, is that what this is? i havent poked at it, i dont want to irritate it. i dont really know what to do, i went to our campus nurse and she gave me an antibiotic but it hasnt seemed to help.. ive been going to bed early and drinking alot of water/tea and stuff, and its been going on for about a week now, with little improvements. Can anyone help me, please, with a possible diagnosis of what you think it is and what i could possibly do? thank you.
Also, i have had this cough that doesnt let up. I like to do a lot of physical activities like play basketball and stuff, and when i run the coughing is so bad i can barely breathe.
no, no one else has caught it. and it is near my tonsils, not on the back of my throat.

STREP. It won't get better without antibiotics and could cause you more problems than just being sore and tired.
See your doctor or school nurse at once!

Yea, they are tonsil stones and they are harmless, but you should go to the doctor for your other symtoms.

yes, you need to go to the doctor. it sounds like you are taking care of yourself, and that's good, but a week is a pretty long time to not get better, especially if you are still running fever. tonsilitus and strep throat look a lot alike, even to a nurse or doctor. to determine if you have strep, they have to take a throat culture ( with a swab). if your tonsils are infected, antibiotics won't help. with both illnesses, there are white streaks in the back of your throat. if it's your tonsils, most of the dots ( puss pockets) will be on your tonsils, and if it's strep, most of the streaks or dots will be at the back of your throat. no, don't poke at them, but you can gargle salt water to help your throat. you didn't mention if anyone else you have been around has caught it... strep throat is very contagious. if you're not better in 2 or 3 days, you need to go to the doctor.
