What exactly do your tonsils do?I went to the doctors for a well checkup and they told me my tonsils are HUGE! They said there is like no space in between them, they also said that they are worried about me getting sleep apnea, not being able to breathe right, or swallow correctly.
My questions to you lovely people are:
1.) What do your tonsils do for you (in your body)?
2.) Does it hurt to get your tonsils taken out? Should I?
Thank you so so much!

Your tonsils are lymph nodes, and they act as filtering harmful stuff out of your system. You don't really need them past your childhood, so if they give you troubles when you're in your late childhood or early teens and beyond, you can safely have them removed.
I had both my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was about 11 years old because they kept getting infected and I was constantly sick. I don't remember pain because they put me asleep for the removal, but for the next week or so it's like having your wisdom teeth taken out - you can only have soft, temperate foods until everything finishes healing.
