Treated for strep throat, but still have swollen tonsils and lymph nodes?Okay so to try to make a long story short, I was tested positive for strep throat about 3 weeks ago and took a full 7 day course of antibiotics (500 mg levaquin because I can't take penicillin). This seemed to get rid of it completely, until three days after the course of antibiotics it came back. I had red spots on the roof of my mouth, as well as white spots on my swollen tonsils and a medium fever for a few days. I went back to the doctor and got tested negative this time around for strep and for mono as well and the doctor said it was probably a virus and to let it run its course. However, two weeks later my lymph nodes are still slightly swollen, tender to the touch, and my tonsils although no longer have white spots on them, are still slightly swollen. Any ides as to if this is normal, or what may be going on?

Negative strep tests are possible and strep has been known to come back, however not usually after a full course of antibiotics. It could very well be that it is a viral infection and you havent given it enough time.
