tonsil stones and gag reflex! help!?I get tonsil stones (smelly little yellow/white stones which form in tonsils) and I can never seem to get them out. Some people have told me that they use a q tip to squeeze them out, but I have no idea how that works since I don't know where exactly I'm supposed to be squeezing, plus my gag reflex is terrible! can anyone help??
ps- I'm not talking about some weird infection, getting tonsil stones is a condition that like 10% of the population has

Trying to work them out with a q-tip is going to trigger your gag reflex I'm sure, most anything you try will likely do the same to some degree, it takes some getting used to. You can try using a Water-pik device if you have one, set it on the lowest setting and try to flush them out.
You can also use a small medicine dropper, squeeze the bulb of the dropper and place the tip of the dropper on the tonsil stone then release the bulb and the suction will often remove the stone. Gargling with warm salt water several times a day can also help dislodge the stones. If you have no luck with any of the usual methods you'll have to let your doctor do the deed.

if they drive you as crazy as they drove me (bad breath, sore throat every day, feeling like something is in your throat, clearing your throat all the time....) then i would go see an ENT and get a tonsillectomy.
i've had tonsil stones since i was 12 (i'm now 23).
i just got my tonsils out 4 weeks ago and i'm very glad i did it. i know this is gross by my ENT said when he started cutting them out tons of tonsil stones that were stuck in there started falling out. :-0

You have to mouthwash and gargle with an antibacterial mouthwash like listerine (not the cheap "own brand" stuff at sainsburys it doesnt work cos it isnt antibacterial) after every meal and b4 you go to bed. This will help get rid of them. You can also pick them out with a cotton bud but you need a torch to see them like a small bike torch you can hold easily. They are behind your tonsils. Also if you dip the cotton bud in the listerine and put it on your tonsils this will clear the bacteria out of your tonsils.
