Well yes it is contagious. And tonsils are mostly useless, even now scientists don't know why they still exist. And so removing them might be for the good if you get tonsillitis.
But don't get them removed if you don't have a problem with your tonsils. It'll be painful, stupid, and wastes a lot of money for surgery.

Tonsillitis i got it twice and after the 3rd time you have to get them removed. Its payed for by insurance and yes some forms are contagious. I had a form where i couldn't talk. It sucks. I got a week off from school.

I've had it before. It's contagious especially strep throat, which is a type of tonsillitis. I had mine taken out because they were rather big, and the way they were shaped made it easy to get infected. After the surgery it hurt for about 2 weeks, until I couldn't feel it anymore. I'm really happy though. You don't need your tonsils. I would look into getting the surgery personally. Ask your doctor about it.

Tonsilitis is not contagious. It's an infection of your tonsils. For example if you cut your finger and the cut got infected, that wouldn't be contagious, either. You can have tonsilitis a number of times without having to get your tonsils removed. Doctors usually suggest a tonsilectomy if it is a recurring infection, and/or if it spreads to the eustacian tubes of the ears-- especially with small children, because stopped-up ear tubes can affect their hearing and ability to learn speech at a critical age. Is this a child you're asking about? Please don't wait; take the child to the doctor right away if you haven't already done that. The dr. will prescribe antibiotics.
