severe tonsillitis! ouch!?i went to the doctors yesterday and it turns out i have tonsillitis and possibly strep. my throat has been in UNBELIEVABLE pain for about 4 days now and today it is at it's all time high. i cannot swallow and my throat (inside and out) is VERY swollen. i cant breathe well either. my doctor perscribed me penicillin but i don't think its working. i have had this once before but not as bad. does anyone know what i could do to make my throat numb or anything to help the pain? it would be GREATLY appreciated! thank you!
?
I've had this once and the only thing that helped me get through those REALLY painful two days was Chloraseptic throat spray. You'll have to re-spray your throat every 15 minutes or so, but it numbs the pain for a little while. I hope you feel better soon! Tonsillitis is not fun.

If you are having trouble breathing you should contact your dr asap.have you taken penicillin before? Your antibiotic may take another 24 hours to kick in enough for you to start to feel better. In the mean time fill a glass with warm water and add as much salt as you can stand. gargle the salty water and try to do the full glass 3x a day. This will help not only the discomfort but will also help in the healing of the infection. There are some throat numbing sprays at the drug store as well as throat numbing cough drops. Ibuprofen, popsicles and lots of fluids will all help too.

You've only been on the penicillan for two days.... you need to give it more time. If the swelling and pain is not better by the end of the prescription, then you need to go back to the doctor. Sometimes, severe strep needs two rounds to clear the infection. Advil works great for throat pain, I'm sure you're doctor would have reccommended it. Make sure to take the coated stuff though because it will be easier to get down.
As for pain, try sucking on ice cubes. Also, anything that coats the throat like honey will give you at least a temporary release. Cold, soft food are the best to eat if you have an appetite, and drink fluids like crazy!
