pneumonia no cough, high fever 10 days 3 years old, please advise?Hello,
my daughter has high fever for 10 days now, she is tree Years old. Other then fever she had no symptoms and felt great (till today), After tree days I took her to her Dr. and he said she can possible have tonsillitis, because she had white pus on her tonsils. Then she got antibiotics /caphalex/ but we had to change to Azytromax after allergic reaction. Took that for 5 days and last night /night #9/ we took her to ER. She has all the time 102-105 F fever. We give her Tylenol and Motrin, wet towels....but at night it takes 2 hours just lower her temperature to 101. Last night in Children Hospital we were told she has small pneumonia based on Xray. They did urine test, but not blood test.. Now she has 104 again even she stared the Augmenting they gave her. I am scared what the fevers will do to her and also I have no power, last night I spent with her in ER and past 9 nights taking care of her fever. I have also newborn who wakes up often and I am getting dizzy from not sleeping. Thank you for advise Kat

I would contact your family doctor a fever for that many days in a row sounds like something more is going on ER docs. tend to put a band aid on the boo boo then send you home at least thats how my ER is. They should have done some blood a work at least a CBC. make sure you are keeping her hydrated as a fever can drain your fluids. To help lower the temp. instead of cold towells put her in a cold bath or a swimming pool sumergung her whole body in cold water will bring temp down faster make sure to wet her head. popcycles are also very helpful do not let the Doc. pass your concerns off a mother knows when something is wrong with her child.

Hi Kat. I am sorry to hear about all you are going through. I have been where you are, up day and night caring for a sick child for days and even weeks on end. I know from experience exactly how exhausting it can be. It really sounds to me like it is time to admit you need some help. The first answerer is right. Take her back to the pediatrician today, and tell them that it has been ten days, and you are very concerned about your child. She should be getting better by now. Tell them that you took her to the ER, and they found pneumonia. It is possible that your daughter may need a stronger IV antibiotic to overcome this illness. Also share that you are caring for a newborn as well and are ready to collapse from lack of sleep.
It sounds to me like you are treating the fever properly with the Tylenol and Motrin and with the wet cloths. Do not give her a cold bath as the other answerer suggested, although a luke warm, tepid bath is okay.
Good luck. I hope your little girl is back to her old self in no time!
