you should see a doctor anytime there is blood like that.

Blood could come from the tonsil and the mucus from the infection (but just coming from throat and or lungs)

Possibly. But you should see a doctor in any case. You wouldn't want to get sick from the infection spreading to something else.

It is rare for a tonsil to burst (abscess) and only a Doctor can tell you if this has happened. The following web-page has some good information on tonsillitis.
