Is this Tonsillitis viral or bacterial? Need your help.?So i went to the doc because i woke up with a sore scratchy throat and 1 enlarged tonsil with a little bit of pus. They did a throat swab to test for strep and that was negative. They gave me antibiotics anyways. I dont want to take the antibiotics if i dont need them because that does more harm than good. Isnt it that if the throat swab is negative then your tonsillitis is caused by a virus? My symptoms include:
Only one tonsil is enlarged with a little bit of white pus
They took my temp and I had no fever
No enlarged lymph nodes
Stuffy/runny nose
headache
Sore throat gets ALOT better during the day so I can hardly notice it, but in the mornings right when i wake up its the worse
I also wake up with a bit of a raspy muffled voice
Should I take the meds even if its viral? Or do you think its bacterial? This is the first time ive ever had tonsillitis. Thanks for your help!!
Ive also been sneezing

If there is pus present, you have an infection which is what tonsillitis is and you need to finish every single pill of your antibiotic. Your physician does not prescribe antibiotics for something he thinks is viral. Tonsillitis is a condition on it's own and does not need to have strep present in order to need an antibiotic.

"Is this Tonsillitis viral or bacterial? Need your help.?" -- Such a thing can't be determined online. Although the Strep test was negative, that doesn't rule out any other bacteria. Tonsillitis is usually viral but can be bacterial. If you're prescribed an antibiotics, it's as a prophylactic. Even if this is viral, it won't help but it won't hurt either.

Wait a minute...I recognize this question. You've already posted this. I know because I answered it. Please don't make multiple postings.

The fact that the pain is localized and the tonsil is creating pus means that it is a bacterial infection. Believe it or not the doctor that went to medical school for many years knows what the problem is. It's idiots like you who would take their own word over a doctor's. Take the antibiotics or continue to think you know more about medicine than your doctor. I honestly don't know why morons like you even go to a doctor.
