Is it as easy for me to get strep throat without tonsils or aidnoids?I know my throat can still be infected, but I always heard the tonsils and aidnoids are what it mainly thrives on. I'm sure I still can get it..just wondering if my chances are at least a little lessened!

my tonsils are out since the age of six and my throat still gets infected but not as much as it used to.

Before I had my tonsils and aidnoids out I used to get sore throats all winter long. They were always very painful. I had them out when I was 18 and I have had maybe 3 sore throats since (I'm 23 now). I don't think you would be getting strep throat as much as you are getting a regular old sore throat.

There is quite a difference between a 'sore throat' and a 'strep throat'. A 'strep' throat means a streptococcal infection, usually the 'bad' ones are strep group A. A sore throat can be due to any number of causes: sinus drainage, 'post nasal drip', allergies, dust mites, plain old dust....etc. Eat well, drink water, and get your needed sleep. Getting run down is the surest way to get sick.

While it's true that strep does like the tonsils and adenoids, you can still get this type of infection along with other throat infections. However, having your tonsils and/or adenoids removed does lessen the infection risk. My son and I both had our tonsils removed and we find that we don't get throat infections nearly as often as we used to.
