I'm getting surgery on my nose and tonsils. What does this mean:?Here's my procedure: Nasal endoscopy, reduction or cautery of inferior turbs and coplation, septoplasty, tonsilectomy, possibly adenoiectomy.
This is my diagnosis: nasal obstruction, septal deviation, inf. turb hypertrophy, chronic tonsillitis.

what does all this mean!? please and thanks. i'm scared of getting surgery. Will I be in a lot of pain!?

Nasal endoscopy = using a scope to look in your nose

Reduction or cautery of inferior turb(inates) = they will either cut out part of or burn off part of the inferior turbinates, which are bony structures inside your nose. I'm not sure about coplation.

Septoplasty = repair of the septum. In other words, they're going to straighten the septum, or tissue that divides one nostril from the other.

Tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy = removal of your tonsils and adenoids.

Nasal obstruction = your nasal passage isn't as open as it should be, and it sounds like it's because your inferior turbinates are enlarged (hypertrophy = big) and that your septum is not straight (deviated).

Chronic tonsillitis = your tonsils are inflamed.

You'll have some discomfort after surgery, but your doctor will be able to give you medicines to minimize the pain.

Your nose is crooked (deviated septum) that's the cartilage separating your nostrils. You'll breathe easier after surgery. It's not painful, just tender to touch for awhile.

Tonsils can be infected, therefore removal. You'll have a sore throat and all you can eat is ice cream.

relax, you'll be fine!
