I keep getting a bigger hole in my tonsil. I am afraid it will fall out.?My throat is not sore. Just on one side it started at the top of my tonsil and sometimes I get a pain in it or a red spot but the hole is bigger than it was. I am afraid it will fall out someday. Getting my tonsils out is not an option becasue I am 63 years old and have a heart arrithmia. I have went to a doctor and he didn't see what I see. But one did refer me to a specialist but I couldn't afford that.

The "hole" in your tonsil you are referring to is called a tonsil crypt. Everyone has these, but not all are open and noticeable. They are small pockets in the tonsils that catch food and debris which the tonsil will then filter out, as is their job. Some people have larger crypts than others. This causes much more food and bacteria and other debris normally in the mouth to get stuck in the tonsil crypts. Most people are without any symptoms, but some may feel a slightly sore throat and you may even notice white spots or patches on your tonsils that are not strep. These are called tonsil stones or tonsiloliths. They are not harmful, but are annoying and may cause bad breath. You can use a water pic to irrigate your tonsils on a regular basis (although water pics are expensive) or you can make sure that you gargle everyday with mouthwash.
