How painful is tonsil removal?I am 22 years old and I am considering having my tonsils removed because I get tonsil stones....I am so paranoid that my breath might smell so I am constintely chewing gum. However, I am terrified about getting the surgery because of the recovery...Any experience or advice will be greatly appreciated...Also does my age cause any risks?

You will have a really sore throat for a week of so and have to eat soft foods. Perhaps you can get a light pain killer. I don't think your age matters but you should ask before the surgery. It really isn't that bad and you won't have the tonsil stone problem any more. Cool food, like ice-cream feels good.
I wish you well

I cannot say anything about the operation but I remember the recovery: I had my tonsils removed as a 6 year old child.
I remember having an very dry and soar throat afterward for a few days, which did not really hurt. Only when I was given any acidic food like oranges or orange juice, because that really hurts. Things like porridge can hurt too, due to the granularity with not too smooth edges. A diet of mashed bananas and other smooth stuff was perfect for a few days. Cool drinks and ice were nice, but only for a few moments.
I remember that the recovery was not really bad.
