How long is Tonsillitis contagious? My 18 year old sister went to the doctor yesterday and they told her that she has tonsillitas. This will be her third day of having it. I was wondering how long it was contagious because while she is sick and she came back to stay with my mom (she lives 30 miles away) and I'm concerned because my mom babysits my kids and I don't know if they will get it. Don't get me wrong I do feel bad for my sis but a 6 year old, 4 year old and especially my 10 month old baby doesn't need to get that!

Tonsillitis isn't contagious unless she has a cold or a virus along with it. It just means inflammation of the tonsils. Of course, I wouldn't drink out of her glass, but I don't think you have to worry too much.

It depends. Tonsillitis is a generic term basically meaning her tonsils are swollen. There may be something causing them to swell, such as an infection. If there is an infection then antibiotics should stop the spread within 24 hrs.
But sometimes the tonsils just swell and eventually need to come out

Tonsillitis is not an illness itself, It is a symptom of an illness. It simply means the tonsils are enlarged and red. It may due to a viral or bacterial infection. The viruas/bacteria is what would be contagious.
