how do I treat my tonsillitis?

Hi,I did the following:
how do I treat my tonsillitis?I want to feel a little better but all I have right now is a bottle of c2(apple), lipton tea bags, strepsils and amoxicilin capsules.

I'm planning to exercise later and play basketball. Do you think thats a good idea? Do you think the amoxicilin will make me feel better?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

amanda
Did the doctor prescribe the amoxicilin for your specific tonsillitis?

Depending on the cause of the tonsillitis then yes amocicilin may work.

The doctor should have done a throat culture for strep, and if you are sexually active they should have also done a culture for gonorrhea and chlamydia. All 3 are treated with different antibiotics. Don't ever lie to a doctor about sexual activity, because if you lie and say you haven't engaged in sexual activity then they wont culture for it and you will get an antibiotic that won't work on your infection. If left untreated stds can lead to serious problems including internal scarring of your reproductive organs and infertility.

If the strep, gonorrhea and chlamydia all came back negative, this means you most likey have a viral infection. In that case you should absolutely NOT use antibiotics. Antibiotics have no effect on viruses and only make matters worse when improperly used leading to antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Lastly, you should never exercise if you have a throat infection. You need to rest and it takes several days for the antibiotics to work IF YOU TRUELY have a bacterial infection. The antibiotics also need to be used until the bottle IS EMPTY.

Tigger
Take the amoxicillin as prescribed, they should be making you feel better starting in a couple days. This antibiotic may make you tired, at least stay out of the sun.
Gargle with salt water several times a day...
