HIV through blood contact? My boyfriend has a gay roommate, who, less than a year ago tested negative for HIV. He had been with the same guy for like, six years or so, but they broke up a few months ago.
Now this gay roommate is with another guy. I'm not sure where he stands in terms of when/if he's been tested.
Anyway, about two months ago, this roommate got his nose broken. My boyfriend helped him clean up his blood from the carpet, and may have come in contact with some of the blood while his roommate was bleeding from his nose. (The roommate was drunk and didn't really understand what was going on, and so he wasn't really trying to stop the blood from getting everywhere.) My boyfriend and I engaged in oral sex a few days after this incident.
A month later, in the beginning of October, both of us got sick. He had flu-like symptoms (nausea/vomiting possible fever, coughing, sore throat) and I was diagnosed with tonsillitis. I had a bad sore throat, swollen tonsils, swollen lymph nodes, but no fever, nausea, or anything like that. I eventually got a stuffy/runny nose and a very itchy mouth so I attributed it to hay fever but now i'm not sure. His sickness went away within the next three or four days I believe, and I had my cold symptoms for about nine days. My tonsil is still kind of swollen (But not nearly what it was, and I also read that the swelling may take quite a while to go down). I never connected the two sicknesses.
However, the other day, my boyfriend told me that his roommate's friend was just diagnosed with HIV. Ever since then, I've been freaking out a little bit. I know that when you first come in contact with HIV, it can take 2-4 weeks to present any kind of Acute HIV symptoms. Both of us got sick 25 days after my boyfriend was exposed to his roommate's blood. Remember, the roommate tested negative for HIV less than a year ago.
However, If the roommate happened to contract HIV from his new boyfriend, who I don't know if he has the virus or not, what is the likelihood that my boyfriend contracted the virus, and then subsequently passed it on to me? I get frequent yeast infections (one in mid-July, one in mid-August, and now one the end of October/beginning of November) and I know that that can be a sign of HIV. I am hesitant to attribute those to the virus since i was getting them before my boyfriend came in contact with the blood, but I'm still paranoid.

I wouldn't worry too much. If your boyfriend had an open cut and the blood got directly in the wound, then I would worry. Also, the blood was hours old and he was probably using chemicals in trying to clean it up which would have prevented transmission. As for the illnesses, it sounds like that is purely coincidental. To be safe, go get an HIV test. They are pretty cheap and you can have the results in about 20 minutes.

well number one, i would get tested if i were you and don't just sit on the computer asking people dumb questions when they don't know for sure, but if you get tested you will.
and two, just because he's fxck1nq gay doesn't mean anything, gay; straight; whatever can get HIV's so don't be assuming stuff.
and three; dont worry; i doubt you have HIVS, your probably sick from something.

Really nothing to worry about. Unless his blood came in direct contact with an open fresh wound, there is not a problem. symptoms of primary hiv infection do not cause a stuffy nose, and high fever is almost always present. I realize that you will probably need an hiv test to calm your nerves so go ahead. I guarantee you if this is your only potential exposure, you and your boyfriend are not infected. By the way, you don't even know if the guy with the broken nose is infected.
