Having my tonsils removed in a few weeks what should i expect?i'm supposed to be getting my tonsils and adenoids removed on august 3rd i'm really nervous i heard from some people that it hurts alot but some people say it doesn't hurt much.

will i be able to talk? how long will it take for me to recover? and will i be put to sleep with anesthesia or something?

i know its alot of questions but its gonna be my first surgery and i'm only 17 so i don't know what to expect.

When you have your tonsils removed they completely anesthetize you. After the fact, it feels like you have a fairly nasty sore throat for about 5-7 days. You'll be able to talk, it'll just not be the most pleasant feeling, but the doctor will give you really effective pain killers. Don't worry, I had mine done a few years ago, and the worst part for me was the anticipation.

your gonna want to eat alot of ice cream ..my son got his tonsils and adenoids removed when he was 5..he just said his throught was sore.yes they will put you to sleep .i guess the worst thing abt it is your throught will scab and you will swallow them no lie..but he was okay and able to eat normally within 4 days after..

relax - you will be asleep, and should be offered painkillers when you wake up - if at home try sipping dissolved aspirin tablets, with a spoonful of honey to help the taste and soothe your throat. You can also get throat lozenges with honey and/or propolis in them. There are also lozenges with local anaesthetic in them, if you are in a lot of pain. Don't try to do much more than whisper for the first day or two, and no booze or opera singing for a couple of weeks! If you are worried about food, then lay in a week's supply of chicken soup and soft bread rolls.
