Has anyone had viral tonsillitis? How long does it last?

Has anyone had viral tonsillitis? How long does it last?My doctor thinks I have this but my tounsils have been swallowen for 2 months now...the only thing that helped was when they gave me steriods but the steriods have worn off so the swelling is back...HELP!

Sounds like you need your tonsil's removed. I would talk to your doctor about that. That is WAY too long to have a virus and to be swollen.

Get a humidifier and drink warm oral liquids such as soup. It won't get rid of it but it will help.

7-9 days is avg length of viral tonsilitis. Current research in MD consult states that infection lasting more than 3 weeks suggests a chronic infection. Tonsils arent removed as much as they used to be, but you might want to consider seeing an ENT to evaluate other treatments.
