Does strep throat reoccur because it never leaves?I have been getting strep at least 3x a season for years. One of my friends mother told me her and her 2 daughters got their tonsils removed for strep. She said strep is an infection in your tonsils and when you get it they swell up and after its gone they shrink back down but have wrinkles in them and the strep bacteria stays in the little crevices and waits and then strikes again when it can. The only way to cure it really is to get them removed and if you get strep without your tonsils it is MUCH less severe. I'm pretty sure I have strep again and I want to talk to my doctor about this. It sounds legit but has any one else heard it? Your answers will be greatly appreciated and if there are any sites with info. you could recommend that would be amazing. Thanks!
I have always used antibiotics recommended by doctor for strep.

You should really not rely on internet information because its mostly all opionion. go to your doctor is my best advice and ask them what your told us :)

if the only way to cure strep is by removing an organ, yet you still get strep after the organ is removed(in the case of friend's mother), than its not a cure. go to a doctor, take antibiotics FULLY.

One thing that causes Strep to re-occur is not completing a regiment of antibiotics. Go to a doctor when you get the disease, and start taking the antibiotics they prescribe. Continue taking them until you finish the regiment- DO NOT STOP taking them just because you feel better. The strep will will be in your system, and will be more resilient. Take them until they are all gone.
Your friend's mom is wrong. Tonsils are lymph nodes, and like all lymph nodes they expand in response to disease. In some cases, they get enlarged so much that they block airways. In this case, they have to be removed.

Strep throat is caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. 10% of the population are carries. That means, it is part of their normal flora which can be an explanation to why you keep getting strep throat all the time. Did you have this a lot growing up? If so, this can be the reason why you keep getting strep throat. You ,unfortunately, can be just a carries of Strep pyogenes. The other down side to this is that the bacterium can get into the blood and cause scarlet fever, but that is just in rare cases.
But who knows, you might just be getting the infection a lot lately without it being a part of your normal flora. First, you need to confirm it is strep throat that is causing your throat irritation and not just a cold or the flu.
Ask your doctor about this, he will take a swap from the back of your throat, grow the culture and he should tell you after a couple of days if it is strep throat.
