Does amoxicillin help relieve sore throat or should I take an advil to help relieve the pain?I don't have strep..my doctor said that I had a lot of pus on my tonsils and gave me amoxicillin. I just got it today and I've only taken 1 of my 2 tablets today but I was wondering if it helped soothe a sore throat. Other suggestions are welcomed!! Also, how long after taking amoxicillin does your throat start feeling better?

amoxicillin won't relieve the pain, it will kill the bacteria in ur throat that are causing the infection. It usually takes a day or 2 for me to feel better, and I take some tylenol in the mean time.

You can take advil to help relieve the pain. I reccomend benzocaine lozenges (cepacol).

water with high bacteria count can cause tonsil problems. drink bottled or boiled water.

1) Amoxicillin's job is to fight your infection. It is a MUST that you take all your amoxicillin tablets as prescribed. Take ALL of them. Don't stop halfway or when you feel like you're getting better. Failing to complete the antibiotic regimen can eventually lead you to build resistance against amoxicillin and that is NOT a good thing (the risks of building resistance is why antibiotics should be taken exactly as prescribed, and should be used sparingly).
2) Amoxicillin is not a pain killer. Take advil to relieve your pain, but be sure to continue to take your amoxicillin.
:)
Hope that helps!
