Do you recommend removing tonsills for recurrent tonsillitis ?Hi ! I'd be very greatful if you could share your experience what concerns chronic tonsillitis. I have been having recurrent tonsillitis for 2 years now. There are no white spots in the back of my throat so primary health care doctors can't usually tell that its a tonsillitis. But ENT doctors say that if you have tonsillitis attacks more than 3-4 times a year, it's a chronic tonsillitis. The thing is both of the ENT doctors that I consulted do not recommend removing tonsills. They told me it is a painful procedure and recovery takes about 2 weeks. I am using saline gargle, breathing hot water mixed with eccinaceia to releave the sympots. I wanted to know is it possible to fully recover with methods of conservative treatment?

Tonsillitis removal recovery is more difficult if you are older than 6 or so. The older you are the more difficult it seems to be. If the ENTs are not recommending it, that is who I would listen to. My recommendation would be to take their advice. My daughter had hers removed when she was about 17 and it was a very difficult recovery and she was miserable for a few weeks. It was really not fun. And it seems from what you have said that they are not even sure that you are getting tonsillitis. Not all sore throats are tonsillitis. The surgery for removing the tonsils was frequently practiced in the past. Now, it is usually done only if a person suffers from tonsillitis more than three times a year, if the person has a high level of antibodies in the blood, and if the person has streptococcus for a long period of time.
