When are you not contagious when you have had viral tonsillitis?I have had tonsillitis for 5 days but is going away with the sore throat not being as severe and the fever going down and most symptoms are dissappearing. When are you not contagious any more?
not bacterial tonsillitis already been checked by doctor.

That varies by the illness. In general though, you are often the most contagious before you actualy have the sypmtoms. I would say your probably fine, but if your going to be around kids, or ppl with immune system problems give yourself a few more days just to be safe.
Oh and change your toothbrush. I know it sounds weird, but the germs can actualy stay on your toothbrush and your much more likely to re-infect yourself if you keep using it.

who told you it was a virus? Tonsillitis is usually caused by a bacteria (most often Strep) and you need antibiotics. 24-48 hrs. of antibiotics will render you non-contagious, but you may feel bad for 5-10 days. There are some anti-viral meds, but not often used in "tonsillitis". Go to a doctor, get proper treatment-a strep infection can lead to heart valve problems later (vegetation). You may need to have your tonsils out if this is a recurring problem.

You are very thoughtful not wanting to infect someone else! More people should be like you!!
