What can you do if antibiotic treatment for tonsillitis fails multiple times?Since January, I've had tonsillitis 4 times. I've been on antibiotics for the past 2 months. Every time I finish a cycle of antibiotics, it comes back. My ENT says I can't get them removed until they're relatively healthy because of the risk of bleeding during surgery. I really need these things out, but it seems like antibiotics are doing nothing.
(I have been on amoxicillin previous times and I just finished a round of bactrim.)

I really wish you would have included the name of whatever antibiotics you've been taking. It seems as though you need either a different class of them, or more potent ones to do the trick. Your ENT is absolutely right as his expertise has taught him. The only other thing I can think of if it hasn't already been done is to have a sensitivity test done. This is a type of test that mostly allergist's use to find out what you might be having an allergic reaction to. The doctor places a sample of several different antibiotics somewhere where it can be seen and when/if any reaction at all comes to be then that specific name is written down and put in the save list in an order as to how effective it is/was. Then several other are tested the same way until the doctor feels he might have something better that might help you beat this finally. Try suggesting this and see if you might be on the way to a way to beat the abnormal swelling of tonsillitis. Good luck and God Bless
