Is it harmful to have swollen tonsils for long periods of time?I have had swollen tonsils for a very long time, as in over two years at least. Is it unhealthy or is it alright to have swollen tonsils as long as they don't cause other problems?
Doctors please help.
There are no bumps, and my tonsils don't seem to be getting bigger. They are just very swollen and the size has stayed persistent. I already have asthma, so I'm not sure if it could cause serious breathing problems in the future..

I am not a doctor but i had swollen tonsils and they had to be removed. It could become dangerous because they could start to block your airways.
my advice, see your doctor (only they know best)
Good luck :)

Go to your nearest clinic.... have them do a checkup and take a look... explain what's been going on and mention that u have a hard time breathing if indeed u do...... u may want to ask them if they believe getting ur tonsils removed would correct the problem and be in ur best interest..

if you have any soars on your tonsils, like white bumps, not that big, and they hurt, go see your doctor
if they increase in size, go see a doctor because this can constrict the airway and suffocate you.
overall, see a doctor. i dont have sufficiant info.

Enlarged tonsils often block the airway causing sleep apnea. If you snore as well, you probably should have a sleep study. I have enlarged tonsils that were not taken out when I was a kid. As an adult the surgical risk and the recovery is difficult. I have to sleep with a machine to make sure my airway stays open. So it is best to see a doctor- an ENT or a sleep specialist.
Good luck

I had the pus (I called it white, bread like stuff) coming out for a year). Scott & White had to know it was pus & I didn't. It's an infection. I had 7 crowns in that year, so yes, do something now it can cause other problems. I had my tonsils out at age 42, they kept falling apart as he took them out. Should have been removed, diagnosed when I was younger but wasn't. It helped some of my throat drainage problems also.
