Infected tonsil/tonsillitis how to relieve pain?I've had my right tonsil infected since late thursday/early friday, and it is REALLY painful. I saw a doctor on Saturday afternoon and he prescribed me with antibiotics. I started taking my prescription as directed starting that night. But it's Monday night now and it still hurts bad enough that I can't even swallow liquids without it hurting severely, and it has a lingering pain at all times even if i'm just breathing. The pain pulsates under my jaw and into my ear a little also. It just doesn't feel like its getting that much better yet. :( I've gargled with salt water, drink tons of warm/hot teas and water, and avoid salty and acidic foods but it still hurts like crazy.
If other people have had this before, how long did it take for the antibiotics to kick in? I know I'm suppose to take them for the entire 10 day duration. What else I can or did you do to relieve the pain?

give the antibiotics a couple of more days to work, it is a bit early to tell

They should start kicking in after 72 hours, so one more day, you should be starting to feel better. I always had fever with tonsillitis, and that made me sleep, so I didn't have to deal so much with the sore throat. I did what you're doing - salt water gargles, warm liquids, and plain old aspirin. You didn't mention the aspirin. So try those, if you haven't yet, as they help with the pain. I know it doesn't feel like it now, but you will feel like a new person before the end of the week. That's a promise from one who has been there.

Keep gargling with the salt water and that will help. Otherwise just wait for the meds to work their magic.
