The tonsils are an important part of the immune system. They are located around every external opening in the body ex :mouth. They can be found protecting vital organs ex: heart. The tonsils are filled with specialized immune cells. The the tonsils act as one of the bodies first defenses to germs; when we eat food that exposes us to germs. When the tonsils are swollen it is because one of the specialized b cells in your tonsils was activated by the presence of your strep throat germs. This b cell(a type of white blood cell) then multiplied itself again and again; partially causing your swelling; in order to fight off or kill the germs that you had been exposed to. The fact that your tonsils where swollen was normal and good because that means that your immune system is active and healthy. It was trying to combat your illness naturally. without the aid of antibiotics.
