White stuff all over and under my tonsils. Went to the Doc's and Strep came back negative. Wtf is this?I went to the doctors four days ago. At that time, only the right side of my throat was in serious pain, and there were a couple white spots under my tonsils. The strep test for that came back negative, and she said it's probably a "virul infection." She prescribed me Amoxicillin (500 MG) for me to take 3 times a day. I took two the first day, and three a day for the past 3 days, so 11 pills are gone.
NOW, four days after the appointment, the white stuff has spread to the other side of my throat, and the pain is on both sides now too. It only hurts when I swallow. It feels like razorblades. As for the white spots, they are no longer "spots" as both sides of my throat are practically solid white. I guess you can call them huge "blobs" now.
Shouldnt the infection have stopped spreading by now? I've been on antibiotics for 4 days and every day I wake up there is more and more white stuff. The pain has decreased a lot, but it still hurts. Any idea wtf is goin on here?
I guess what I'm really asking here is... Should I go to the ER or clinic if there's one open tomorrow? (Christmas). I really don't want to be in a hospital on Christmas if i don't have to. Or should I keep waiting it out? Is there a way for me to get rid of that white stuff myself, like with a Q-tip?... Any information or input would help. Thank you very much.

COULD BE THRUSH ( YEAST INFECTION OF THE THROAT )
Faith needs a cute name for Y!
I'd call the doctor as soon as she is open again. You may need something stronger.

after giving someone oral, you should either swallow it or spit it out;

i dont know what it could be, you would think it would be strep. dont try to remove it with a q tip. dont touch it if you dont know what your doing. but you could wait until tuesday to go because going to the doctor isnt going to get rid the pain their probably just going to perscribe you some stronger antibiotics.

I have to rewrite this question...
Ive have the SAME EXACT THING HAPPENING TO ME NOW... they thought it was strep even though the test came back negative, so i had to go back in becuase as the same for you, my antibotics are not working either, and they had to admit a blood test (which trust me i was flipping out i hate blood tests but it wasnt THAT bad but still haha) and the next day (today the 27th) i got my results back and it turns out ive had MONO!!! so i advise, since we both had the same exact problems and symptoms, to go back into your doctors and get a blood test!!!

Go to the ER. It's either amoxicillian resistant strep and her test was a false-negative or you have something fungal. I wouldn't wait until morning when the ER is more crowded - go now.

It could be Tonsillitis.

I think you may have a sinus infection. The sinuses draining cause the throat to hurt.
I didn't have the white spots, but I did have the pain on one side which moved to the other. I had a sinus infection. Problem was the weeks before I thought I was coming down with a cold & I tool theraflu & felt better. The infection just went back dormant & came back worse.
It was EXTREMELY painful. I went to the Dr. once & the ER twice after for this. First I got Amox. Then I went to the ER for pain. They gave me codeine. Not strong enough. Went back the next day & they gave me Lortab & a shot in the hip to help with inflammation.
Dr. told me that infection had gotten so bad that I would have to wait several days for the antibiotics to get into my system. The ONLY thing that saved me was the PAIN MEDS. The pain was horrific! GOOD LUCK!!!

My opinion is that you have tonsillitis and a strain which may be resistant to Amoxicillin. Have you taken Penicillin for other ailments in the past year? Because, you should have seen significant improvement after four days taking this antibiotic and the fact that you haven't suggests that your doctor should try something different, perhaps a stronger antibiotic. I would hesitate going to the Emergency Room as a sore throat, no matter how bad it hurts, isn't really considered an emergency. Try to call your doctor and if that isn't possible go to the clinic or Urgent Care. Christmas Day is a great day to go because the place will be empty and you will be in and out quickly. In the meantime, keep taking the Amoxicillin and try gargling with hot salt water. This will make your throat feel much better and you might be well in the morning.
Good luck and let me know how this turns out. If the infection doesn't get better in a couple more days or gets much worse you may need to have your tonsils out.
