What is this white stuff on my tonsils?So, I have this white stuff on my tonsils. I have no idea what it is. I get them all the time and usually they are accompinied by a sore throat. But not all the time. What are they????

This is tonsillitis. The tonsils act like soldiers on guard, reacting to any germs/bacteria that try to get in your system through your mouth. So they react and inflame and produce white stuff. It is just your body fighting infection. It is best not to touch the stuff, as if you have dirt on your fingers, you are bound to make the infection worse. The "hole" is little pits that we have on the tonsils. It's like the surface of the moon. the white stuff collects in there.
Best thing to do is gargle with salt water, which will kill any infection; gargle with soluble asprin for the pain, and it will go away in it's own time. Try to avoid passing it on to anyone else too!

When I used to get them I had strep throat. It could also be food stuck there. I had to get my tonsils taken out when I was younger because I had the same reoccurring problem.

sounds like tonsillitis, its very common. Mild cases only last a few days, but it can be very painful and cause the throat to swell. The doctor can prescribe antibiotics which should clear it up, which is not to say that it won't come back. In the past they would remove the tonsils if it keeps happening, but now a days they only do that in extreme cases.
Also gargling salt water can help (this is often recommended by doctors).

You have tonsillitis and should see a doctor. Tonsillitis can be caused by either a viral infection which just needs to run its coarse or by a bacterial infection like strep. The doctor will need to swab your throat to test for strep. If it is positive then you'll be prescribe antibiotics. Untreated strep can lead to much more serious conditions, so you need to get this checked out. In the mean time gargle with warm salt water and drink hot tea with lemon and honey.

The only time I saw this was when I had tonsilitis. I had an extremely bad sore throat with white tonsils. When my son had his tonsils out, the back of his throat was also white. It probably could be a few things related to infections or, in my son's case, healing. Ask your doc, they would know!
