What is this white stuff on the back of my throat (tonsils)?

What is this white stuff on the back of my throat (tonsils)?I tried looking up pictures of tonsillitis and things of this sort but none of them really look like the back of my throat. These white "patches" appear in holes on my tonsils and I sometimes get a toothpick and pick the stuff out and it tastes and smells bad as well. I'm going to the doctor next week to get it checked but right now I need something that will help with the pain. Thanks in advance to those who answer.

They're tonsil rocks!
(They're called something else but I can't remember what it is.)
They're harmless particles of food and/or postnasal drip that get caught in the crevices of your tonsils. They can be hard to get rid of, and for some people they can irritate the tonsils. Try gargling with a little warm salt water.

When you remove these white patches, is the flesh underneath raw? Look up thrush.
