What causes Tonsil Stones?I know that they are bacteria, or white blood cells...
But what CAUSES them?
I keep getting them, and it grosses me out so much.

Well... I used to get them too (I always called them moon rocks) , and my doctor told me that it was bits of food that had gotten caught in my tonsils and had begun to fester. I had tonsillitis for a while, before they suggested I had them removed.

When you have tonsillitis, your tonsils are swollen and end up with deep crevaces where the bits of food you eat gets trapped until you cough them up or swallow them. Yea, yuck, I know.

I've been tonsil free for around 3 years now, and it has been a wonderful moon rock free 3 years! Unfortunatly I'm not really sure of a way to prevent them, unless you can figure out a way to clear your throat that would clear them out too.. Other than getting both the tonsils removed that is.

La vida es buena!
I used to get them all the time too, and EWW! I feel your pain. I started drinking more water and cleaned up my diet a little bit and I haven't had one in nearly a year. I'm not 100% on if a poor diet was the culprit, but it's possible.

Good luck getting rid of them, I know they're gross!
