Tonsils are swollen and covered in white spots but strep test is negative?

Tonsils are swollen and covered in white spots but strep test is negative? My right tonsil is very swolen and covered in white patches, and my throat hurts very bad. I've been getting headaches and migranes from the pain. My left one is fine. I had a strep culture done about an hr ago and it was negative, so I have to deal with it still. Any Idea what this could be, and how to treat it?

Smashed fresh garlic and 1/2 cup hot water. Gargle swallow. It is natural healing remedy. Try it at least 3 times a day. 2 days it will feel much better. Drink lots of tea with lemons.

I'm not sure.. I had my tonsils removed due to constant sore throats... You should gargle with luke warm water and salt!!! It really helps!! Hope you feel better soon!

as the people above me said, there are ways to help.

Go to google and find what you're looking for!

You can also go to the doctor if you need help!

Hope you get better soon! ^_^

Just because the rapid strep test came back negative, doesn't mean the 24 hour test will. They do both. The rapid strep test is done primarily so they can get you started on an antibiotic right away. However, they will send the culture to the lab and see if strep develops in the next day. You may get a call tomorrow saying you have strep. Then again, you may not. Strep tends to be on both sides of the throat. Gargle with warm salt water to relieve the pain. Obviously, you should also take ibuprofen or Tylenol to help too. Sip hot tea or ice water (whichever makes you feel better) it depends on the person. It's possible you have a viral infection. They really can't do anything about that. I know it stinks, but if it's viral, an antibiotic won't do squat. Feel better soon, hon.

Still could be strep throat or mono. When my daughter had mono, they tested for strep and mono, both came back negative initially, but after three tests the mono test finally came back positive. In mono you will have the white patches and purple looking patches as well. Have someone look in your throat with a flashlight to see if you have this.
