Throat pain on one side, now spreading to ear and I think possibly wisdom teeth related.. or an ear infection? Can anyone help me understand what's goin on?
A couple days ago I felt as if a part of my throat was hurting. I thought maybe I was coming down with something, like how your throat hurts a little when you swallow BEFORE you get a sore throat/cold. But a couple days passed and I feel fine otherwise, thank God!
I wondered if maybe I had scratched it swallowing then, because the pain is still there. Maybe from a frosted mini wheat or something lol. It's only on one side of my throat and it's right at the back where my tonsils meet my jaw sort of.
Today the sharp-feeling sort of pain is spreading to my ear, so I wanted to go online and look into it.
I'm noticing that the gums on my wisdom tooth on that side are feeling different.. a tiny bit more "raw" if you will than the other side, and that when I put pressure on the tooth, the pain in my throat/ear subsides. But it's not the gum on my wisdom tooth itself that feels raw, it's more where my top and bottom jaw connect and the tissue waay at the back, probably even slightly behind or above the wisdom tooth.
I don't have a fever and I've never had an ear infection before, and if it were strep or something I would feel sick and it wouldn't just feel like a smaller area of throat. Could it be a canker sore in just a really sensitive spot? Or an absess (never had one before)?
Do you think I scratched my throat? Or do you think this could be a wisdom tooth thing?? I'm 19. What should I do? Doctors are so expensive I want to make sure that if I do have to go, I go to the right one who will be most likely to be able to help me. Do you think it could go away by itself? And what signs or magnitude of pain would be the ones to tell me to go to the doctor instead of seeing if it heals? As of right now it doesn't hurt that much, it's just uncomfortable.
thx

Your very right. It could either be an abcess or a scratch or possibly just an ear infection. I would recommend going to the doctor to determine which one, and also get on antibiotics for any type of infection. Even if it is an abcess, the antibiotics will help that calm down, and then you can go from there to determine what caused it. If you cut your throat on a mini wheat (I've torn my esphogus, and yes it hurts), the mouth heals quickly, so should heal up by Monday (at least enough for you to figure out if that's what it was). You really should talk to a doctor. Even though they are expensive, you can always just tell them you want antibiotics, to prevent further spread of whatever infection you have, and they usually will do that for you without running any expensive and unnecessary tests. :) And if you get a generic antibiotic they are usually pretty cheap. Take care and God Bless ya, Diane
P.S. Your wisdom tooth might be impacted and putting pressure on your jaw. get rid of what's causing the pain and getting impacted wisdom teeth pulled isn't exactly cheap either. Good Luck.

Are the lymph nodes in your neck swollen?
If they are, this can cause ear aches and sore throat.
It could also be a sign of 2 things:
1. You wisdom tooth that is coming in is infected...this would explain the sore gums.
2. Your tonsils are infected.
It could also just be that the pain is totally related to your wisdom tooth coming in....not infections or anything like that...just the actual pain of cutting the tooth.
Do you have any of your other wisdom teeth yet? If so, did they hurt like this when they came in?
As for who you should see medically....I would say an ear, nose and throat doctor. He/she can best tell you if your pain is ear/throat related or if it is something your need to see a dentist about.
Many cities have dental clinics where their fees are based on your income. You can check with social services and find out where there is one in your area.
As for easing the pain...gargle with warm salt water 3 times a day....especially in the morning and before bed.
Take pain meds like Tylenol ...(brand name or generic). and try to stick to soft foods like soup, pudding, pasta, etc. until you se a doctor .
Good luck

Yes, these symptoms sure look like impacted wisdom teeth. And it seems to me that they are pretty severe! You should definitely visit a dentist. He may give you some antibiotics to provide temporary pain relief but a surgical removal is the permanent solution as antibiotic will relief the pain but will not eliminate the problem. As for the surgery, you may choose if you want to have local or general anesthesia that is choose whether you want to be awake or asleep.

Does ur throat/gums look red? it might be just irritated, but wisdom teeth can cause refferd pain to the ear and throat. and also you might have an infection in the wisdom tooth area. please see your dentist about this.
