should I get my tonsils remove because of tonsil stones?i am 18 i have been suffering from tonsil stones ever seince i was about 6-7yrs old. They are anoyying they eventually fall out of my mouth every now and then. Im sure they are the cause for my bad breath and I bursh my teeth like crazy daily and still have bad breath. Im just wondering is it common for people to get their tonsils removed because of tonsil stones? and getting them removed will they improve my breath? and what are the disadvantages of not having your tonils?

I don't have enough information about tonsil stones to be able to help much, but I do know tonsils play a part in the immune system by helping fight off bacteria in the mouth or something like that. But talk to an expert :)

yes i would highly recommend getting your tonsils out due to tonsil stones.
yes its pretty common.
i had tonsil stones for 10yrs before i had mine out. that was in 2009 when i was 23 and i haven't had a problem since.
i was like you with the brushing like crazy and it never helped. i don't have bad breath now. so tonsil stones is definitely whats causing your bad breath.

i suggest going to see an ENT (ear nose and throat dr) since they are the ones that determine if you should get them out and they will most likely tell you that your reasons for wanting them out are valid.

Hi Kevin,

It's definitely a good idea to speak with your doctor. However, surgery to remove your tonsils is rarely necessary. Tonsil stones (also known as tonsilloliths) are often misdiagnosed and fairly common. They are caused by the accumulation of sulfur-producing bacteria and debris that become lodged in your tonsils. These can also lead to bad breath.

Try using an oxygenating toothpaste and mouthwash. When used in combination with nasal sinus drops it should eliminate your tonsil stones, and the bad breath that is a side effect.

There's a really good site here: http://www.tonsilstones.com/

However, if your doctor does suggest removing your tonsils, it's definitely something to consider.

Good Luck. I hope this helps!
