Is this normal or should i push for more?My son is 4. Heres a summary of things...about a yr ago, i started college (he had been home with me full time before this), and he started daycare. We made it through 1 semester of school (4 months), before i had to drop out due to all the missed days. He had 6 ear infections, strep throat twice, pharyngitis and tonsillitis once, bronchitis 3 or 4 times, pneumonia twice, stomach flu once, and a constant cold.
I had to wait until now to go back, because each set of classes is only offered once a yr, and you have to go in sequence. So i start back up beginning of sept and he has had an ear infection, strep throat, and was hospitalized for almost 2 weeks with orbital cellulitis and even required surgery to fix it.
When he was in the hospital, i asked them to check out his white cells, and make sure him immune system was ok...they said it was fine. Is this normal when kids start school? I know they get some things, but all this? Or should i push for more tests?
It was at 2 different daycares, and there was no difference in how often he was sick. Also, when he was home with me between semesters, he wasnt sick other than an occasional cold, etc.

u should push for more he may have a serious condition that is causing all this, try doing a little research on the net or something and see what u can find. Yea it is normal for kids to get things especially at daycare but not that much, thats way more than ususal. hope this helps you

Its normal to get sick when you go to school, but dang.. thats just too many times and too many serious things. Change day cares and see what happens.

Yeah, I don't think one little kid should be sick that much. I'd have them run more tests. Aren't the doctors concerned at all? A place to start may be to make sure he is pulling adequate nutrition from his food... And to get him allergy tested. That could explain the ear infections, some of the upper respiratory stuff, and the "constant cold"... But I am not a physician. That is just what I would push for as a parent.

no matter where you put your kid(s), germs get passed around from each child and from the caretaker. So, if a child is sick, they suggest you keep them home so other kids won't catch the bugs. Sometimes you can't avoid it at all due to the small quarter those people are in and unsanitary conditions. I remember my oldest one was in a Montessori the first year and she caught something from school. Boy talking about sick, she was soo sick that she was hospitalized for 4/5 days. She had the flu, stomach virus, pneumonia, and other stuff. I was very scared and helpless because I couldn't do anything to help her until her body and medicine do their thing. It wasn't fun at all. You need to check the daycare to make sure they have hand sanitize and the kids wash their hands everytime they eat. Teach your child not to rub his hands in his face so to prevent germs from entering him.
I'm always careful with my kids cleaning their hands before they eat and not rub their face with them until it's clean. You might want to carry hand sanitizer or wipes with germs fighting agent. Good luck.
