Is it normal for you to have nasty ear pain when you have tonsillitis?

Other people asked questions on various topics, and are still

answer them
Is it normal for you to have nasty ear pain when you have tonsillitis? So I'm 22 and just got tonsillitis for the first time several days ago and now when I swallow, I get terrible pain in my right ear. Do ear infections occur often with tonsillitis? BTW I have 100.6 degree fever as I type this and it's been 5 days since it started bothering me. I am on antibiotics, but this sucks. Any idea how long stuff like this lasts and if I can do anything about it? The ear thing just happened today, two days after I last saw the doctor, should I call them back and tell them?

the virus that causes tonsillitis can inflame all of the lymph nodes -causing the "ear pain". treat with advil or tylenol, drink lotsa fluids, and follow up with your doctor.

Call them and let them know; you probably have an ear infection. It's normal; your throat and your ears are connected. I started getting tonsillitis late last year, and got my tonsils removed the day after Valentine's Day this year (I'm 25). I will say this; my ears and throat hurt horribly for the week after I got my tonsils removed. Even now, if it's humid outside, my ears tend to cloud up - My ENT (Ear Nose Throat) specialist says it's normal.

But yea, definitely tell your doctor your ears are hurting really bad - it may shed light on how bad your tonsillitis is.

Tonsils and sore throats and ear aches all go hand in hand - unfortunately. You can have tremendous ear pain and not have an ear infection -
BTW, about 5 days after having my tonsils out I had horrible ear pain - apparently that's pretty text book.
