There are other infections that can cause spots on your tonsils besides strep. Not all are bacterial, some are viral and don't respond to antibiotics.

You have tonsillitis. I got this a lot as a kid, into college. NOt the same as strep. Did ;you get antiobotic for this? It is still a throat infection.

I am not sure what tonsils-pitted tonsils is supposed to mean but try the following. Take a small spoon or Q-tip and put pressure on the outer edge of the white spot (not the white part) and put slight pressure. If something chunky and smelly comes out you have tonsil stones. It is hell but removing all the tonsils that have pockets will stop them. I had them all my life until I had my tonsil removed.

If only pus (liquid not solid) come out then you have an infection. Ask your doctor to do a culture and see what is present then treat with the appropriate medication. Not all tonsillitis is the result of Strep but many are. It can also be other bacteria, viruses or fungus.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonsilloliths btw if it is tonsil stones you can remove them by this method and it won't hurt anymore. If it still hurts there is some left inside. Antibiotics won't help. Just remember be gentle, you are pressing on inflamed tissue.

You have several sets of tonsils, there are two the contain crypts and can get tonsil stones, these are the lingual tonsils and palatine tonsils. You are most likely talking about the palatine tonsil which are at the back of your throat. Most people have tonsil stones only in palatine tonsils but I managed to get them in both and insisted on both being removed. It hurt badly to get the tonsils removed (as an adult) worse in fact then the pain of the stones but it was nice to have them anymore. Not sure if I would choose surgery again though, hard to say, it hurt a lot.

There're another causes of white spot tonsillitis : viral tonsillitis may be caused by numerous viruses such as the Epstein-Barr virus (the cause of infectious mononucleosis)or the Adenovirus.

Sometimes, tonsillitis is caused by a superinfection of spirochaeta and treponema, in this case called Vincent's angina or Plaut-Vincent angina.

If you really want to find out the causal agent, you better ask for culture.

You probably have Tonsilitis. You need to see an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist.
