I might have strep throat please Help? I don't want to go to the doctor.?I have had a sore throat for almost a week. At first I thought it was because I slept with my fan on all night and it was cold, But now i'm starting to think different my boyfriend is getting ready to go to med school and he keeps checking my throat he said my pharyngeal tonsils are swollen and that i need to go to the doctor. I really don't want to go because I'm afraid that I will have to get my tonsils removed. My symptoms are that I can't swollow, when I rub my fingers down the left side of my throat is hurts really bad, and my body feels really weak.

Go to the doctor. If it is strep throat, it won't go away without treatment. It doesn't mean you'll need surgery necessarily.

A sore throat that last greater than a day or two should be looked at by a doctor, unless you know for sure what the cause is. It doesn't matter if your boyfriend or your next door neighbor looked down your throat. It doesn't take someone that is "getting ready to go to med school" to visualize swollen tonsils.
Swollen,painful, and/or red tonsils can indicate a number of different things. If a basic warm saltwater gargle and ibuprofen for a couple of days don't fix it, you probably need antibiotics. These can be prescribed only by a doctor. Even if you are diagnosed with Strep, it doesn't mean they are gonna whip you off to the hospital for removal of these infected tonsils.
Lesson #1 for your boyfriend - untreated Strep can lead to cardiac issues that can lead to death.....if he's gonna be a doctor....he's gonna have to learn his honest scare tactics

don't worry, for strep throat you usually just need antibiotics. but you need to go to the doctor soon because i'm pretty sure it can have complications without treatment. but you really shouldn't worry. if it is strep throat the antibiotics should really help.

it might be strep, but you really need to go to the d rso the dr can test u for it and if its confirmed tha tu do have strep, then antibiotics will be given.
