I have Tonsillitis? Healing tips and Food Tips?i am 21 years old and just got Tonsillitis yesterday and looked it up online and went to the doctor and i have it. What is good to help me heal faster? What is okay to eat, that won't irritate the tonsils more? i know you shouldn't eat dairy like milk or cheese because it produces more mucus. I tried eating salad with vinegar but it only made some mucus build up. What do I do? And my grandma won't let me get surgery to get them taken out because she says we don't know how severe it is. If it is not bad enough then a doctor won't do the surgery. And we also found that some types of tonsillitis you can't get a surgery cuz it will just make it worse or something. But mine started with a strep throat and turned into Tonsillitis. I got the sore throat first, head hurts, fever rapidly changing, one ear hurts, little body pain. Intense painful swallowing. Swollen, red, puffy pus covered tonsil. Those are some of the symptoms. And I have them. But it started with just my right tonsil but now my left tonsil is starting to show white puss but it doesn't hurt yet.
I am on antibiotics, but antibiotics also kill all the good biotics. It kills the good and bad biotics in the body. So my grandma is also having me take PRO biotics along with the antibiotics. That way I get back the good biotics that the ANTI biotics took away.

I hope you are on an antibiotic to treat this. Soft foods go down easiest and things that don't need a lot of chewing. You will just have to experiment and see what feels best - every person is different. Surgeons do not usually take out tonsils after only one episode of tonsillitis. You need to have had multiple episodes in a one year periods before they usually consider doing this surgery. And, it is possible that you might not get another episode of this ever. And, you should also be taking some tylenol or motrin regularly for any pain that you have. Milk products do increase mucus production and are best avoided during the first few days of your antibiotics but after your throat starts getting better, you can go back to a regular diet.

Take some Tylenol to help with the pain and drink lots of water. Eat smooth foods like jello or applesauce.
I've had tonsillitis a few times and drinking cold things usually made my throat feel a little better. Try sucking on some Halls or something, my favorite flavor is the Honey-Lemon because it doesn't taste as nasty.
You generally don't need to have your tonsils removed with just one episode of tonsillitis, but if you get it more than three or four times in one year then your doctor would probably suggest it.
