Sounds like strep. But, you can't see your tonsils just by opening your mouth unless they are super huge...in which case, they would take them out.

Yes,in all probabilities it is strep throat and can't be cured without the use of an antibiotic like a combination of Amoxicilline+Cloxicilline 250mg.each thrice a day,Ibuprofen 400mg.twice a day for 3 days and a cough syrup with an anti-allergic (an example only) additionally an anti-septic gargle will be of great help.Tonsils are the watch dogs of your throat and stop the infection from entering into the chest.It is not advised to get them removed unless it is extremely nessary.Your doctor is the best judge.
