How long do I have to wait to smoke/drink after mono/strep/tonsillitis?I had tests done at the doctor for strep and mono, and they both came back negative multiple times. My throat has hurt for a week or so now, but I am starting to feel much better. I just don't want to make myself worse by doing something stupid. But I really need a cig!

Often times mono tests come back negative, the first time. Ask to havethem repeated, especially if sysptoms continue. DO NOT DRINK!! If you in fact do have mono it can enlarge your spleen and liver and you can do alot of damage. If the test does come back positive- do not drink alcohol for at least six months because the swelling can linger for a long time after you have recovered. Why not take this opportunity to quit smoking since you have been forced to stop cold turkey anyway- call a help line for support- call friends, get bowls and bowls of hard candy and suck on them. Think about all the money you are saving- I got my sister to stop in the same way and she began to put the money she would have spent on cigarettes in a jar- she saved enough to go on a cruise!! Good luck and feel better!
