How long after a tonsillectomy until a person can eat real food?I had a tonsillectomy over a week ago. I think it's my ninth day and I've been wanting real food since day one. How much longer do I have to wait until I can eat something solid, like a cheeseburger?

haha i had one on my first day of 8th grade aint that funny!! you can eat one right now if you want if it hurts though like excrutiating pain then stop it hurt my throat to eat real food for 2 weeks but after the first i ate it anyway.
i was sick all summer. my tonsils were the size of golf balls. i would send you a pic but i dont know how. and they didnt want to do surgery i could hardly breath and finally i went to a specialist and he stuck a camera up my nose and looked down at them and i could see it on a tv screen it hurt sooo bad. then he said ok we need to take those out as soon as possible and got out his book. the first day he had open for me was the first day of school or the second week of school i said i might as well do the first day cuz i was in PAIN!! so i got to stay home the whole first week of school and the second week i didnt have to do gym!! ---whats sad was anyone who wasnt my close friend who knew i was haveing surgery thought i moved away!! it was kinda funny.
ohh i ate the schools food the whole second week it was solid and sucked cuz its school food so you'll be fine :]

Actually, you cold eat solid food the first day, but of course, you would got through hell because of the pain. You should eat food when you feel comfortable and it doesn't hurt. For me it was about 2 weeks.

usually you have a 10 day post op check up at the drs office. the dr will tell you when you can eat basically normal foods again. as long as everything is healing well you should be able to start eating normal as soon as you leave the drs office. (i hit up mcdonalds on the way home lol)
