How do you know if your tonsils have grown back or not?

These are useful and collceted by kong!
How do you know if your tonsils have grown back or not?I had my tonsils taken out like 10 years ago when I was about 6. I know it is possible that they can grow back and I was thinking that mine probably have. My throat has been sore alot sometimes to the point where I can't talk and my eyes water. Its sore now but not severe. Mucus keeps coming up and throughout the day its been hard to talk at times. This has just been occuring I'd say in the last 6 months. Prior to then I rarely ever had problems with my throat. What could be the problem?

No!Tonsils,no! They don't grow back!! They are out of your body! You probably have a throat infection. I have mine out last month, and the doctor said TONSILS NEVER GROW BACK SO I WONT HAVE TO EVER SEE YOU AFTER THIS.

I've never heard of tonsils growing back after they've been removed. Just because you had your tonsils out doesn't mean you can't get throat infections and strep. You obviously just have had a series of throat infections. If you haven't already gone to the doctor you should go and have it checked out. Since it hasn't cleared on it's own, you may need antibiotics.

I don't think tonsils grow back. If they do you should keep them because they are an important part of the body.

When I was younger I got my tonsils out and when I would get a sore throat I'd complain that I shouldn't get a sore throat because I had my tonsils removed. Not the case, you're throat can still get irritated and you can still get things like strep throat. If you've had a sore throat for 6 months you should definitely go to the doctor and get them to take a look at it.

Ok, who told you that tonsils can grow back.

That is impossible . . .they probably did tell you that it is possible to still get strep throat though and it's good chance you should probably get that checked out.

But also . . .in all seriousness . . .if you are sexually active in anyway I would suggest that you REALLY get this checked out because this could be signs of gonorrhea. It has similar symptoms as strep and lasts longer . . .That's why I am concerned that you haven't done anything with this yet.

According to the following link, tonsils can indeed grow back if even a partial bit of was left behind by the surgeon. I don't know how fully developed they'd be, though.

I guess you'd know they grew back if you look down your throat & you see them. Or ask your doctor next time you go in for a check-up.

EDIT: abstract about tonsil regrowth from Int J Pediatr Otorhinolaryngol.
"Tonsillar regrowth following partial tonsillectomy with radiofrequency."
OBJECTIVES: To assess regrowth potential of the tonsils following partial tonsillectomy performed by using radiofrequency. METHODS: Follow-up results of 42 children (aged from 1 to 10 years) who consecutively had partial tonsillectomy with radiofrequency due to obstructive sleep apnea or snoring were evaluated for regrowth of the tonsils. RESULTS: Regrowth of the remaining tonsillar tissue was observed in 7 of 42 patients (16.6%). The upper respiratory tract obstruction symptoms recurred in 5 of these 7 patients while the remaining 2 patients were asymptomatic. The tonsils of symptomatic patients were removed completely. CONCLUSION: Partial tonsillectomy may have a significant potential for regrowth and thereby recurrence of the obstructive symptoms. Although the cause of this regrowth remains unknown, this problem should be remembered by the surgeons, and an informed consent should be obtained from the families prior to radiofrequency tonsillotomy.

If they were taken completely out they will not grow back. If you had a non-invasive partial tonsillectomy you can still have trouble with tonsils later but if you had them out as in a tonsillectomy (the most common) they will never grow back. You of course can still get any type of throat infection, allergy or sinus trouble but you will not have trouble with tonsillitis.
